FAQ

How does this new model enhance the Student Ministry?

Our new model is systematic (easily caught, taught, and replicated), scalable (allows for easy expansion or upgrade with each additional campus), and sustainable (utilizes resources efficiently in order to prevent burnout and allow for continued ministry growth). Collectively the SPs will share in the planning of identical SMs at each campus. The SPs will also be more accessible for students needing intentional discipleship. The Student Ministry across Trinity Church will have a larger reach across the community as it pursues public high school and middle school students for the sake of the Gospel regularly.

How many students are in the youth group?

Between the three Virginia Beach campuses, we have over 150 students who we interact with. The youth group at each campus will be much smaller to begin with, with a vision to grow each individual campuses youth group to 10% of the congregation size.

Why is there a need?

Grant Gubser has been serving in two roles over the past year, Student Pastor and Campus Pastor of Town Center. He will be transitioning full time into the Campus Pastor position once the new student pastors are hired. The current part-time Student Ministry Coordinator (SMC) positions will end, opening up the opportunity for three new, full time positions to be created.

When will this all happen?

We are currently forming a Search Committee for the SPs. Our goal is to have three SPs hired by September 2018.

Strategic Plan

What is the new structure of Student Ministry at Trinity Church?

Oceanfront Campus: Student Pastor (OFSP)

Princess Anne Campus: Student Pastor (PASP)

Town Center Campus: Student Pastor (TCSP) and a place for students to meet.

**Each Campus will have a Student Ministry in which the same programming will take place.**

**All campus Student Ministries will gather for camps, retreats and missions.**

Why is there a need for a new structure?

There are two great needs for families at Trinity Church and students in Virginia Beach that need to be met:

1. More Local Meetings- The Oceanfront Campus, where most Student Ministry currently takes place, is challenging to travel to for two-thirds of our families. Students at Trinity Church woud be better served by having a place to meet at or near their respective homes and campuses.  This new structure will help eliminate the barrier of youth group meetings which are too far away to reasonably go to regularly.

2. Reaching students at their schools- There are over 41,000 students throughout communities in which our Virginia Beach campuses reside. To transform the Hampton Roads area by sharing the Gospel with high school and middle school students, our strategy must be focused on strategic personnel placement. Virginia Beach has eleven public high schools and thirteen public middle schools.  This new strategy places a SP ready to share the Gospel with students at each of those schools! Around each of the Trinity Church Virginia Beach campuses, zones have been created.  In each zone there is a selection of high schools and middle schools within proximity to each campus. The Student Pastor at each campus will primarily work to grow relationships with staff and leadership at the schools in their zones, perform contact work (i.e. showing up to where kids are), and create a trustworthy presence at school events.  This is pivotal in reaching lost students through real relationships.

Who will lead the Student Ministry in this transition?

The Student Ministry will continue to be led by the Student Ministry Coordinators (SMCs) as the new Student Pastors are being hired. (Our current SMCs have been invited to apply for the new position and are prayerfully considering it.) After more than five years of leading Trinity's Student Ministry Grant Gubser, will freed to concentrate entirely on his role as the Town Center Campus Pastor.  After 6 years of serving Trinity's Student Ministry, Michele Conley has decided that after her maternity leave she will transition to a different ministry role in a part-time capacity.
