RESTON
This Trinity Church location is now closed.
General Questions
After much prayer, evaluation, and discussion, Trinity’s Governing Elders have reached the difficult conclusion that the Reston Campus will close.
The decision to close Reston Campus followed months of evaluation by Governing Elders, Reston Shepherding Elders, and a Reston Campus Taskforce. Starting in May 2025, these groups sought to address ongoing relational, cultural, and financial issues at the campus. The Elders also brought in a national expert in church health to meet with groups of Reston congregants to find viable solutions for increasing the campus’ health. After months of evaluation, the Governing Elders determined that we did not see a path toward holistic, long-term sustainability for this campus. Financially, the strain on Trinity’s operating budget is too heavy to sustain the campus, and we have been unable to grow in a way that might change that.
The final service (Sunday, December 14th) happened quickly based on advice from other multisite churches who have walked this same road. While closing quickly is difficult, our goal has been to ensure swift transparency and communicate openly once the decision on closing was finalized.

Not at all. God has worked in beautiful ways in Reston. People met Jesus, disciples were made, families were loved, community partners were served, and genuine kingdom ministry took place. We are thankful for every soul impacted, and Trinity has learned meaningful lessons about planting and ministering in different regions.
On September 25, 2022, Trinity Church assumed responsibility for the people, services, budget, and building in Reston, VA. The Reston Campus had its official launch service on May 21, 2023.
The building will be sold, and the proceeds will be primarily used to plant churches. Any remaining funds will be used for other kingdom purposes.
Reston staff will work with Trinity ministry teams to relocate furniture, fixtures, and equipment to other campuses as appropriate. For anything not needed by Trinity, we plan to offer items to other churches and ministries.
We are so grateful for the gifted staff God assembled at Reston Campus, and our desire is to provide them with as much support as possible during this process. Specifically, Pastor Robbie Hall will remain on Trinity Church staff, and his wife, Joni, will remain in her role as Trinity Kids Director. The Halls will transition back to Hampton Roads in March 2026. Also, the Personnel Committee is working with the other Reston Campus staff members to finalize details of separation.
The church is asking for prayers for the Reston family as they seek new church families, for the Halls as they transition to Hampton Roads, for the Reston staff, for God’s ongoing work in Northern Virginia, and for fruitful Gospel ministry through the church planting efforts that will ultimately come from this season of redirection.
We would love to care for and talk with anyone who has questions or concerns about this decision. Please email restoncampus@trinitychurchvb.com, and someone from our leadership team will reach out personally.

Regarding your membership, you do not need to take any formal action unless your new church requests a transfer letter.

Children often experience change deeply. We encourage open conversations, honest feelings, reminding them God is faithful, and emphasizing that our church family continues—even in a new place. Pastor Robbie and Joni are happy to provide age-appropriate guidance and prayer.
